A planned in-place upgrade from Exchange 2016 to Exchange 2019 is underway, with the current infrastructure including an AD server running Windows Server 2016 and AD schema version 87. The new Exchange 2019 server will be installed on Windows Server 2019/2022.
Is it necessary to upgrade the AD schema from version 87 to 88 to support Exchange 2019 in this scenario?

Since our AD server is running on Server 2016, version 87 is supported. However, for Exchange 2019, we need to upgrade the Exchange OS server to 2019 while keeping the AD server OS the same. In this case, is AD schema version 87 still compatible with Exchange 2019, or do we need to upgrade the schema to version 88 on Server 2016?
