Getting Notifications for Work Item Type Changes in Azure DevOps

How can notifications be set up for changes in work item types, such as when a Product Backlog item is changed to a bug and vice versa? Attempts were made to use the notification template for Work and to create a rule on the work item, but the correct field or operator wasn't identified. Is there an alternative method to achieve this?

    Hi Mary Dowling,

An Easy option I found is to set the notification from Notifications Template.2025-05-02 17_32_52-Settings · Notifications (MT Stack Overflow) - Settings and 16 more pages - Work

    • I am able to set the Notification without any filter criteria (if any worktime is changed).

2025-05-02 17_50_57-Settings · Notifications (MT Stack Overflow) - Settings and 16 more pages - Work

    • I can see the mail triggered when any action item is changed.

    • In your case, as you have requirement to change Product Backlog to a specific value, then make sure the Product Backlog field is available in the work item list.

Another alternative option is to use Power Automate.

Thanks @VinodSoni for the clear explanation.

This option is more flexible and user friendly to send notifications.

    Hope this helps
