How to install NVIDIA driver on NCC40ads H100 v5 (confidential compute and Windows Server 2022)

Hi,

I tried to install the "NVIDIA GPU Driver Extension for Windows" on my VM, but I keep getting a "Provisioning Failed" status. Is this extension not supported yet for H100 in confidential compute? Or are we missing something?

It is not an option for me to install the extension via the az CLI.

Operating system: Windows (Windows Server 2022 Datacenter)

Size: Standard NCC40ads H100 v5 (40 vcpus, 320 GiB memory)

Location: West Europe

Could you please provide more details about how you are trying to install Nvidia extension and please share the error details during provisioning the driver.

Please login to VM and navigate to path and share the logs to better assist on the query.

These are the error messages we are getting:

Try to install using Azure CLI by specifying the driver version in the NVidia Driver Extension.

az vm extension set --resource-group MyResourceGroup --vm-name MyVm --name NvidiaGpuDriverWindows --publisher Microsoft.HpcCompute --settings "{'driverVersion':'538.46'}"

az vm extension list --resource-group MyResourceGroup --vm-name MyVm

Hi,

Thanks for the response, but as stated in my initial question, it is not an option for me to install the extension via the az CLI (because of policies I cannot login to Azure on the VM). My question is mainly just to check whether or not the extension is working correctly (for confidential VM's).

Currently, I have switched to a Ubuntu VM. There it is working, but a Windows Server VM would have been easier overall.

Hi Senne Colson,

I hope you used the same VM size and security type (confidential VM) for the Ubuntu VM as you did for the Windows VM, based on the specifications shared above.

Could you please try launching a VM with Windows Server 2022 Core and install the NVIDIA GPU Driver Extension for Windows. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/extensions/hpccompute-gpu-windows#operating-system-support
