Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am reaching out to inquire about the possibility of programmatically controlling notifications for specific Microsoft Teams channels for individual users. While I am aware of the existing mute/unmute endpoints for meetings/calls (which control microphone settings), I am specifically interested in managing notification preferences for channel memberships .

To clarify my request:

  • Is there a Microsoft Graph API endpoint or Teams SDK functionality that allows a third-party application to mute/unmute notifications for a specific user in a specific Teams channel ?
  • If such functionality does not currently exist, could you guide me on alternative approaches (e.g., user-level settings, admin policies, or policy-based configurations) to achieve this goal?

My use case involves a third-party integration where I need to dynamically adjust notification settings for users in certain channels without requiring manual configuration in the Teams client. Any insights into the feasibility of this scenario—via existing APIs, admin tools, or future roadmap features—would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

    Hi Muhammad Qadeer,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft!

Currently, Microsoft Graph API does not provide a direct endpoint to mute or unmute notifications for specific users in specific Teams channels.

Since this functionality is not available at the moment, you can submit a feature request using this support link. The Microsoft team will monitor these requests and consider enhancements to the Microsoft Graph APIs. I'll also upvote your request to support it.

    Hope this helps.
