As per description, we understand that you HP Sureclick VM is asking to provide Entra ID credentials.

HP Sure Click is a local endpoint protection solution that uses micro-VMs to isolate potentially malicious activity. We cannot manage these VMs from Entra ID.

On HP Sure Click–protected endpoints, common Office documents in read-only mode, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, in addition to Adobe PDF files, are application-isolated from each other and from the host PC—right down at the hardware level. They reside inside safe, disposable micro-VMs, so users can smoothly conduct their business without workflow disruptions, knowing that their systems are secure.

I am able to download, for example, google chrome. When I go to the download and double click it, I am prompted with HP sure-click to sign in with credentials that will allow the installation.

Hello Matt Valentine,

Thank you for your response.

You will not be able to by-pass the password prompt which pops up before performing actions (installing a new program) in a non-administrator account. If you are logged in as an admin and still you get the prompt you can disable UAC (User Account Control) to stop the password prompt window.

However, as a work around you can right click on the setup files of the program and select Run as Administrator. Check if that helps.

So the issue I am having extends from me not being an administrator. The laptop was previously assigned to someone else and we cannot seem to change who has admin permissions remotely. Do you know how we can change admin permissions at this point in time? I will re-iterate that this is an org PC and even my org does not know how to change these settings. We are basically locked out of the laptop. (I can still get in and use it, I just can't install any programs or make changes to settings).

Hello Matt Valentine,

As you mentioned you don't have admin privileges on the computer, I suggest you to reach your Entra-ID Administrator to check if this device is Entra-ID joined machine. If so, you can get local admin privileges.

If this doesn't work, I suggest you refer the below thread to recover local admin.

Hello Matt Valentine,

Please follow the below steps to reset your local admin password on your physical machine.

To reset your local admin password, you can try booting into Safe Mode and change things through Command Prompt. Once you're in Safe Mode, log in using the built-in admin account (if it doesn't have a password, even better). Now, let's open Command Prompt with admin privileges. Right-click on the Start button and choose "Command Prompt (Admin)." Then, use the below command:

net user administrator NewPassword

Replace "NewPassword" with your desired password. Give it a shot, reboot your laptop, and then log in with the administrator account using the new password.

I do not know what the built-in admin login credentials are. So, no this has not been very helpful. Maybe it would be if I had that information?

Hello Matt Valentine,

For this process to complete, you don't need password for local Administrator.

When you login to the device in Safemode, you can access command prompt without providing any password.

There you can reset the local administrator password by running the below command.

net user administrator NewPassword
