Microsoft 365 permanently purges data after retention periods expire. If no retention policies, legal holds, or backups were configured during the 5-year period, recovery is likely impossible.
Changing retention policies only affects future data, it cannot retroactively recover already-purged content.
Given this situation, you can submit a data recovery request via:
Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > New Service Request.
