Hotmail account does not consistently receive pw reset emails from websites

I maintain a hotmail email account (which I understand is now outlook.com). The issue is that I do not consistently receive password re-set emails from websites. I will hit "resend" until the cows come home and the re-set email does not arrive. I DO check my spam and junk mail and the re-set pw emails do not arrive there either. I have examined settings but I do not see anything that would block certain websites but not others. This happens with a LOT of websites (e.g., major airlines, certain credit cards, auction bid sites). My husband NEVER has a similar problem with his gmail account. He always gets re-set emails. What might be the issue with hotmail that causes ? Thanks.

My first guess would be that your Hotmail email address has been placed on a "Blocked List" and the web sites are not sending you the reset emails because they think your email is a hacker attempting to crack an account.

To test, change the verification/reset email address on one of the sites that is not currently sending you reset emails and request a reset. You can quickly setup a GMail or Outlook.com account for this purpose.

    Hi sc B,

    Welcome to our forum!

    Please take the following steps:

    1. Check the "Blocked senders" list in Junk >Blocked senders and domains. Remove any entries that might be blocking legitimate senders. More: Block or unblock senders in Outlook - Microsoft Support
    2. Check "Safe senders and domains" and add the domains of the websites you're having trouble with (e.g., @united.com, @americanexpress.com).
    3. If you set Focused Inbox, please check the "Other" tab, some emails may be routed to "Other" instead of your main inbox, even if they’re not technically spam.
    4. Go to Settings >Mail > Rules and check for any rules that might be affecting incoming mail.
    5. In addition, Microsoft maintains an internal list of senders/domains they block globally (not just for your account). If a sender is on this list, their emails won’t reach any Outlook.com user. If this is the case, your options are:
    • Use an alternate email (like Gmail) for those sites.
    • Complain to the sender (e.g., the airline or credit card company) so they fix their email reputation.

If all above do not work, since your husband’s Gmail works fine, looks like the issue is more related to your outlook.com account, please kindly understand that the Outlook tag here we mainly focus on general issues about Outlook desktop client. It's suggested that you could post your case in dedicated forum for Outlook.com for more professional advice.

    Hope it helps.
