In a SharePoint Online document library, I’ve noticed that when I double-click on an empty column (cell) in a row, it still opens the file — particularly a PDF — even though that specific column has no content or link.

My Goal: I want to prevent double-clicking on empty fields from triggering the file open/download behavior.

I have a Document Type column.

If it's blank, and I accidentally double-click it, the entire row behaves like a link and opens the PDF.

This is confusing for users and I’d like to disable row open behavior based on that field being empty.

    Hi Sukhbir Kumar,

Good day! Welcome to Q&A forum.

This is SharePoint's default behavior where double clicking anywhere in a row opens the associated file in SharePoint Online.

There is no method to prevent double-clicking on empty cells from opening documents in SharePoint Online.

    Hope these information helps.
