Unable to restart the Azure PostgreSQL server. Error message: "An error occurred restarting the Microsoft.DBForPostgreSQL server. Error occurred restarting the server. Service is temporarily busy and the operation cannot be performed. Please try again later."

I encountered the error while attempting to restart my Azure PostgreSQL server.

The error message suggests that the service is temporarily busy, preventing the restart from being performed.

I have already waited for a while and attempted the restart multiple times, but the issue persists.

There is no apparent resource issue on my end (e.g., CPU or memory) that would prevent the server from restarting.

The issue may be related to a temporary overload or a maintenance event.

I need assistance in identifying the root cause of the issue and resolving it so the server can be restarted successfully

    Hi Kevin,

    Greetings!

We would like to confirm whether you are currently using an Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Single Server or a Flexible Server instance.

Please note that Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Single Server was officially retired on March 28, 2025, and instances that were not migrated before the deadline have been disabled. If it is a Single Server instance, this could explain the issue you're experiencing.

If the issue is related to a Flexible Server, please do share the necessary information privately so we can work with you to resolve it as quickly as possible.

If you’ve already found a solution, we would appreciate it if you could share it with the community, as it may help others facing similar issues. Otherwise, please provide more details, and we’ll be glad to assist you further.

    Thank you!
