I’m encountering an issue while trying to update the redirect URI for an existing App Registration in the Azure portal.

When I attempt to update the URI, I receive the following error message:

Failed to update [MY-APP-NAME] application.

Error detail: Client CLIENT-ID is not authorized to update apps using consumer identity [CONSUMER-ID]

I’m logged into the Azure Portal using my Microsoft account via email OTP authentication. It appears that I may not have the necessary permissions or that the authentication method may be limiting my ability to make these changes.

Could you please assist in:

Clarifying the root cause of this permission issue

Advising what role or login method is required to successfully update the redirect URI

Helping me resolve this so I can proceed with the required configuration change

Please let me know if any additional information is needed from my end.

    Hello Docparser,

Regarding the error:"Unable to Update Redirect URI – Client is not authorized to update apps using consumer identity," occurs when you use personal (Microsoft) account.

    To resolve this:

    • It's recommended to use a work or school account, as this ensures proper access rights.
    • Try accessing the portal using Incognito/Private mode in your browser to avoid issues caused by cached data or cookies.

Additionally, you can try accessing the Azure portal via your tenant-specific endpoint:

    https://portal.azure.com/yourtenantid

Please replace yourtenantid with your organization's actual tenant ID.
