As of May 15, 2024, Microsoft Entra External ID has been announced as Generally Available (GA), which suggests full support for production use.

However, within the Entra External ID user interface, both Enterprise Applications and Single Sign-On (SSO) are still labeled as "Preview" features. Since Enterprise Applications and SSO are core functionalities for many production scenarios, this raises a few important questions:

Why are Enterprise Applications and SSO still marked as "Preview" despite the GA status of Entra External ID?

Are these features safe to use in production environments?

Do these features receive the same SLA and support coverage as other GA components?

Clarification on the current and planned support model for these features would help inform adoption and risk assessments.

That feature appears to be still in preview:

As with all previews, things may change so until that feature is GA if you use in Prod at your own risk.

    Hello,

Thank you for your question about the preview status of Enterprise Applications and Single Sign-On (SSO) in Microsoft Entra External ID, despite its General Availability (GA) on May 15, 2024.

    Why are they in Preview?

Enterprise Applications and SSO (e.g., SAML-based) are labeled as public preview as of May 2025 to allow for further development and refinement. These features are not yet fully mature compared to GA components, as Microsoft continues to enhance functionality and stability.

    Safe for Production?

Preview features are stable for testing and non-critical production use but may have limitations. Thoroughly test in a non-production environment before deploying to mission-critical workloads.

    SLA and Support?

Preview features do not have the same Service Level Agreement (SLA) as GA components and receive best-effort support. Full SLA and support apply only to GA features. See Entra preview terms for details.

    • Support Model:

Current: Preview features are supported with active development to incorporate feedback.

Planned: Microsoft aims for GA status, but no specific timeline is confirmed. Track updates on the Microsoft Entra Blog.

    • Recommendations:

Validate preview features in a test environment before production use.

For critical scenarios, consider GA features or alternatives like Azure AD B2C.

Consult your Microsoft account representative for risk assessment guidance.

For further assistance, open a support ticket via Azure Portal > Help + support.

    Best,
