Question About the Document Intelligence Studio Migration

According to the Document Intelligence documentation on Document Intelligence Studio, (link here), it says that Microsoft is planning to migrate features from Doc. Intelligence Studio to the Azure AI Foundry Portal.

From reading it, it appears that for the time being, Document Intelligence Studio will continue to be active and I will still be able to train custom models. Will this functionality eventually get transferred to the new portal? And what will that mean for Document Intelligence Studio? Is that going to get deprecated, or will it still be available after the migration is complete?

Additionally, what will this mean for the models I have currently built in Document Intelligence Studio? If the full functionality gets migrated, will those models also get migrated to the new portal as well? Does this change anything with regards to the API calls and SDKs for Document Intelligence?

Finally, is there a way to access Document Intelligence Studio outside of a direct link? I used to be able to get to it when I opened up the Document Intelligence resource on the Azure portal, but now the resource directs me to the Azure AI Foundry portal.

I would appreciate any clarification to my concerns.

Thanks

    Hi @Marques Chacon

Currently, Document Intelligence Studio remains active, allowing you to train custom models as usual. However, features are gradually being migrated to the Azure AI Foundry portal.

Regarding the long-term outlook, no specific deprecation date for Document Intelligence Studio has been announced. It is advisable to start familiarizing yourself with the Azure AI Foundry portal, as future developments will likely focus there.

    Impact on Existing Models:

Existing models created in Document Intelligence Studio will not automatically migrate to the Azure AI Foundry portal. You must manually export these models and import them into the Foundry. It is essential to thoroughly test them after migration due to potential differences in functionality across platforms.

    API & SDK Considerations:

The APIs and SDKs for Document Intelligence are consistent across both platforms. However, as new API versions are released (such as the 2023-10-31-preview), some models and functionalities might be deprecated or modified. Ensure compatibility with your applications.

    Accessing Document Intelligence Studio:

If accessing Document Intelligence Studio through the Azure portal redirects you to the Foundry portal, you can still access it directly via its specific link: Document Intelligence Studio. Note that direct access may change as migration progresses.

Stay updated with official Microsoft documentation for any changes or timelines related to these services.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you any further queries.

    Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Microsoft is actively migrating features from Document Intelligence Studio to the Azure AI Foundry portal. Here's a breakdown about your concerns:

    Migration Status & Studio Availability:

As of now, Document Intelligence Studio remains operational and supports functionalities like training custom extraction and classification models. However, Microsoft is transitioning these capabilities to the Azure AI Foundry portal. While no official deprecation date for Document Intelligence Studio has been announced, it's advisable to begin familiarizing yourself with the Foundry portal, as future developments will likely focus there.

    Impact on Existing Models:

Currently, models you've built in Document Intelligence Studio aren't automatically migrated to the Azure AI Foundry portal. You'll need to manually export and import these models if you wish to use them in the Foundry environment. It's important to note that the two platforms may have differences in model formats and capabilities, so thorough testing post-migration is recommended.

    API & SDK Considerations:

The underlying APIs and SDKs for Document Intelligence remain consistent across both platforms. However, with the introduction of newer API versions (e.g., 2023-10-31-preview), some models and features have been deprecated or updated. For instance, the general document model (prebuilt-document) is deprecated in favor of the prebuilt-layout model with the features=keyValuePairs parameter. Ensure your applications are compatible with these changes when transitioning to newer API versions.

    Accessing Document Intelligence Studio:

Previously, you could access Document Intelligence Studio directly from the Azure portal via the Document Intelligence resource. Now, this link redirects to the Azure AI Foundry portal. To access Document Intelligence Studio directly, use this link:

    Document Intelligence Studio

Keep in mind that this direct access might be temporary as Microsoft continues its migration strategy.

    Recommendations

Start Transitioning: Begin exploring the Azure AI Foundry portal to familiarize yourself with its interface and capabilities.

Model Migration: Plan for manual migration of your existing models, ensuring compatibility and performance in the new environment.

    • Stay Updated: Regularly check Microsoft's official documentation and announcements to stay informed about deprecation timelines and new features.
