Hi, I want to know if a Azure VPN Client (P2S) will be made for Mobile IOS and Andriod? I know it can be supported for certification authentication but we would really like it to support AD auth.

Thanks

    Hello Kin Yung

I understand that you're looking for information about the Azure VPN Client for mobile devices, specifically regarding the ability for point-to-site (P2S) connections using Active Directory (AD) authentication.

Currently, Azure VPN Client for Point-to-Site (P2S) VPN supports Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) authentication only on Windows devices. While iOS and Android devices can connect using certificate authentication, there is no official Azure VPN Client app for mobile platforms that supports Azure AD authentication.

Please refer to the table below which shows the client operating systems and the authentication options that are available to them: 35323-azure-p2s-oslist.jpg

Native Azure AD Authentication with OpenVPN protocol and Azure VPN Client for Windows. Other OS: Authentication options are not available at this time. The primary method available on mobile devices remains certificate-based authentication via the OpenVPN client.

However, you can currently use Radius or Azure Certificate authentication to connect Azure P2S VPN on Android/iOS devices.

To connect using the OpenVPN client on iOS, you must generate the necessary client certificates and configure them correctly.

For the latest information on future releases or changes, it is advisable to monitor the official Azure updates or roadmap announcements.

If you want this option on other OS clients, you can leave your feedback here requesting this feature. All feedback shared in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for developing Azure.

    Hi Kin Yung,

Thank you for posting your question on the Q&A portal!

Currently, the Azure VPN Client is primarily designed for Windows systems, and there isn’t a dedicated Azure VPN Client app for iOS or Android. However, you can still set up a Point-to-Site (P2S) VPN connection on mobile devices using third-party VPN clients that support the IKEv2 or OpenVPN protocols. Microsoft provides guidance on how to configure these connections, and you can find more details in the official documentation here: Azure VPN Gateway documentation.

Regarding authentication, while certificate-based authentication is supported for mobile devices, integrating Active Directory (AD) authentication directly isn’t available right now for iOS and Android through the P2S VPN setup. That said, you might want to explore Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) conditional access and other identity solutions as a workaround. I understand that having native support for AD authentication on mobile would be really helpful.

If you need help setting up a workaround or have more questions, feel free to ask! The community and Microsoft support are here to assist.

Thanks again for reaching out, and have a great day!

    Best regards,
    Alex
