@anand.mantoju It sounds like you're trying to figure out the licensing requirements for Azure Information Protection and the Microsoft Purview Information Protection services, specifically if you need an E5 license or if the Azure developer subscription would suffice.

    To clarify:

    1. Microsoft Purview Information Protection does typically require a specific plan, and the E5 license does provide the full range of features, including some advanced capabilities like automatic labeling and data protection solutions.
    2. You can also explore using the Azure Rights Management service (Azure RMS) with the appropriate licensing for your needs. The Azure RMS allows you to protect sensitive information and may be used in conjunction with Microsoft Purview.

If you're customizing the RMS SDK, having the right licensing will be crucial to access the necessary APIs and features.

    Here's what you can do:

    • If you opt for the E5 License, it will enable you to fully utilize all features of Microsoft Purview Information Protection without limitations.
    • For development purposes, you can start with an Azure developer subscription, but you may eventually need to upgrade to an E5 license for full feature access if you plan on using the advanced capabilities like automatic labeling and rights management consistently

anand.mantoju hi, that's a great question, thanks for bringing it up here ))

if u want to play around with azure information protection and the rms sdk for some custom stuff, u don't necessarily need that fancy m365 e5 license right away. but... there's a catch )

for basic azure information protection features, ur azure developer subscription might be enough to start with. but if u wanna go full throttle with all the microsoft purview info protection goodies (like sensitivity labels, automatic classification, all that jazz), then yeah... e5 starts looking real tempting )

the rms sdk? that one's a bit special. u can actually use it with just an azure ad premium p1 license in some cases. but here's the kicker some advanced features will straight up refuse to work without e5 sorry "mais non" )) if u're just testing things out, try the developer program first. u get a nice sandbox to mess around in. but if this is for production? better check the licensing twice... or maybe three times :)

    Best regards,

    Alex
