[Visual Studio 2022] Adding a Project Reference fails

Greetings All,
I have a problem with Visual Studio 2022. Firstly, I should tell you that my VS2022 environment is as follows:
Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2022
Version 17.14.3
VisualStudio.17.Release/17.14.3+36127.28
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.8.09032
My problem is this; I have created a UWP user interface project (and solution) and I wish to add a reference in it to another UWP Class project. So far I've added the UWP Class project to my solution then attempted to add a reference to the UWP Class project to my main UWP user interface project. For some reason this fails. The following is a screen shot of the 'Add Reference' window illustrating the result:
I've tried adding the same reference to a different UWP u/i project but get the same result. I've checked my Event Log but there are no diagnostic messages (as far as I can tell).
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fixit.

Nigel Stratton 25 Reputation points2025-06-05T23:30:09.6133333+00:00 I've just upgraded to 17.14.4 and project references in a project I have been working on for the last 18 months, have failed. In one file, 17 necessary using statements are greyed out, including System references and I can't navigate to definitions. No variable or reference is marked as invalid even a random type I make up.

many thanks for your comment and sorry I haven't replied sooner, I don't seem to be receiving emails when anyone add a comment or answer. Also, I just added a comment (addressed to you @Nigel Stratton ) but for some reason it has disappeared.
Anyway, I'm trying again. Having thought about my reference problem I has an idea that maybe the UWP UI project and the UWP Class project were in some way incompatible, perhaps due to some things included in on project but not the other. So, I created a new blank UWP UI project and a new UWP Class project separately and added nothing to either. I then added the UWP Class project to the UWP UI project's Solution. I then attempted to add a UWP Class project reference to the UWP UI project. The attempt failed and I received exactly the same 'Unable to adda reference...' message that I got originally.
I then tried Exactly the same procedure but with WPF instead of UWP and, guess what, it worked without problem.
Call me naive, and I'm more that willing to be corrected, but I think that this is a bug. If nobody is able explain this circumstance I think I'm going to report it as a bug in Visual Studio 2022 to Microsoft.

many thanks for your comment and your action in restoring one of my comments. I must also point out that I'm not receiving any notifications (via email) that anyone has replied to my question. This, along with all of my comments/answers being treated as Spam, is very frustrating.
Is there anything you (or I) can do about this?

If it's white, click it to change status.
Also check your notification settings. Click Settings in the upper right corner and select Settings. There are a number of preference, and a large section for notification settings. I'm only showing the start here:
As for your post being marked as spam, this depends on what you put into your message. It's not always entirely easy to understand, even for me as a moderator, why some messages were trapped.

many thanks for your reply. I've checked my Q&A setting, as you suggested, and, as far as I can tell, I should begetting emails when anyone replies to my question with either a comment or an answer. The 'Q&A email notifications' switch is on, the 'Private message notifications' switch is on and the 'Answers' and 'Comments' switches are both set to 'Instant'. I should have got an email notification to your latest comment but I didn't. Can you think of anything else I may have overlooked or what else I can do?

2025-06-26T20:44:49.65+00:00 Well, the obvious one: You misspelled the email address. I might have done that once or twice myself. It can also be worth checking spam filters etc. If you have an alternate address, you could try that one.

I checked my email address and it's the same one as I've always used. By the way, I check my Spam/Junk folders just in case but I'm using a standalone version of Outlook and the Spam filter doesn't (and has never) worked on it.Notifications worked without problem until, after posting my original question on 31st. May, and not having received any comments or answers, I finally looked at my question again on 24th June and noticed that @Nigel Stratton , had sent posted a comment on June 6th. Now I find that not only am I not receiving email notifications but my comments and answers are being automatically excluded via the Q&A Spam filter (which, by the way, I think you've fixed). So, I guess my question now is what do I do now?

It's not that I have white-listed you. What I did was to resurrect one of your identical posts. It's not that the spam filter does not like you personally, but there was something in the contents that triggered it.
You could try to turn off notifications, and then a little latter turn them off again.
