Hi Guys,

I would like to ask about ETA for Azure Managed Redis deployed in the GOV environments?

Currently I'm able to create Managed Redis in the Azure Commercial Cloud only.

The question is when such a possibility will occur in GOV env (GOV US, FedRAMP, Canada GOV).

Hi Katarzyna O, Thank you so much for your question. Please find below the recommended research for your question.

Here are some insights that may help with planning your Azure Redis Cache reservations, especially if you're keeping an eye on Azure Managed Redis for use in government cloud environments.

    • Azure Managed Redis entered public preview during Microsoft Ignite in November 2024, and while Microsoft hasn’t announced a firm General Availability (GA) date yet, most Azure services typically go to GA within 12 to 24 months of public preview. Based on that pattern, GA could reasonably happen sometime between late 2025 and mid-2026 in the public cloud this are assumptions.
    • It's also worth noting that Microsoft plans to roll out Managed Redis to sovereign and government clouds only after it reaches GA. That means Azure Government, FedRAMP, and Canada Gov regions likely won’t see support for Managed Redis until after mid-2026 assuming the timeline follows past trends.
    • In the meantime, for those working in government environments, Azure Cache for Redis is fully available and comes in several tiers:
      • Basic: Ideal for development or testing with single-node setup.
      • Standard: Two-node, highly available configuration.
      • Premium: Adds features like clustering, data persistence, and VNet integration.
      • Enterprise: Designed for large-scale scenarios with Redis module support and better scalability.
These tiers are available now in Azure Government regions and are a solid choice until Managed Redis is rolled out.
    • As for reservations: 1-year terms offer more flexibility if you plan to switch to Managed Redis when it's available. 3-year terms can save more long-term but are less adaptable if your plans change.
    • Given the current timelines, if you need Redis services now in a government cloud, it’s safe to move forward with Azure Cache for Redis reservations. Microsoft typically provides some migration flexibility once a new service becomes available, depending on the terms of your reservation.
