Update Windows 10 22H2 clients to Windows 11 24H2 via WSUS is not working. clients classify as "not needed"

Hi all,

I want to update around 110 clients with Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 11 24H2 via WSUS.

I have selected the right Products and Classifications in WSUS. None of my clients pick up the downloaded and approved "Windows 11, version 22H2/23H2/24H2 x64 2025-05B" Upgrades which I have approved for Install in a "Windows 11 pilot" group in WSUS. In this group I have 2 notebooks that are hw approved and compatible for Windows 11. But as I said the W11 update does not get picked up from WSUS. When I search for online updates on these clients I do get the W11 24H2 update offered right away.

So why does the online check do result in offering the W11 update but not via WSUS?

Make sure the followings are selected:

Products:

Windows 10

Windows 11

Windows 11, version 24H2 and later.

Classifications:

Upgrades

Now run WSUS sync and select the appropriate upgrade under WSUS.

You should also check the Windows Update log on the client:

Get-WindowsUpdateLog

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

Run on the client:

wuauclt /detectnow

wuauclt /reportnow

More specifically, what to the clients THINK they are needing in terms of updates?

It's possible you're missing a prerequisite.
