Hello,
I am currently experiencing an issue with SSL/TLS connections from a Windows Server 2012 machine when trying to connect to an Azure MySQL server instance. This issue suddenly began overnight and has not been resolved through a restart or any local configuration changes.

- You need to check Azure TLS Version Requirements
- Azure may have recently disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1.
- Azure MySQL TLS enforcement policy may now require TLS 1.2 or higher.
You can find it at : Log into Azure portal → your MySQL server → Check TLS settings.
- Then check the verification TLS 1.2 Is Enabled on Server 2012
Windows Server 2012 does not have TLS 1.2 enabled by default for some applications.
This path bellow will help you to Enable TLS 1.2 via registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.2\Client
- Check for key "DisabledByDefault" with Dword = 00000000
- Next check at "Enabled" by set Dword = 00000001
- Then reboot the server.
- Update .NET Framework or MySQL Connector
If you’re using a .NET app or MySQL Workbench/Connector:
- Make sure you’re using .NET Framework 4.6 or newer, which defaults to TLS 1.2.
- Update MySQL Connector to the latest version that supports TLS 1.2.
- Test With OpenSSL or MySQL CLI by test connectivity and TLS version with this script:
Ex:
openssl s_client -connect yourserver.mysql.database.azure.com:3306
This shows which protocol version and cipher is negotiated.

Torkkeli Julius 5 Reputation points2025-06-18T11:59:37.73+00:00 Hello, I'm facing similar issue. We are connecting to Azure MySQL server from PowerBI Service via. Azure VM hosted on-premise gateway -appilication. The connections stopped working with 'Call to SSPI failed' -error on 11.6.2025.
On-Premise Gateway application uses .NET SKU 4.6 and I updated MySQL .NET connector to 9.3.0 -version with no results. Any ideas what to try next? edit. according to registry the system default is TLS 1.2. and .NET is defaulted to use system default.
