Azure tenant is blocked due to inactivity and I cannot even log into my Azure account to create a support request

Hi there,

I am trying to use the $1000 Azure credit for testing out a business idea (see the link: https://foundershub.startups.microsoft.com/signup).."foundershub.startups.microsoft.com") When I clicked on the respective link, it led me to a log-in page. I used my Microsoft credentials to log in. Then, I received the "Error code: AADSTS5000225".

I called the support line of Microsoft in my country. At the first try, the bot asked me a couple of questions to determine the nature of the issue. Then, it referred me to the support / Q&A page.

I followed the steps in an earlier solution message, which leads to requesting support via https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/ webpage. The problem is that I cannot even start a support request because it asks me to log in to my account, which leads me to the very page where I get "Sign-in failed (Error code: AADSTS5000225)" error.

I noticed that it would not help me and called the support line once again. This time, the bot did not even listen to me. Instead, it referred me to the same support / Q&A page and closed the call.

I am basically in a loop of no-solution about the matter. Can you please help me with this?

    Hello Bococan,

    Thank you for your response.

As per Microsoft data retention policy, if a tenant remains inactive without any sign-in activity, the account gets disabled, and customer data deleted.

If you don’t log in to your Azure tenant via https://portal.azure.com/ within the specified time frame, it may be permanently deleted. Inactivity can trigger Microsoft’s process to remove unused tenants. Once a tenant is marked as inactive, the OMS commerce system enforces a login block. During this time, any sign-in attempts will result in the following error: "AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity."

Twenty days after the login block is applied, the tenant will be permanently deleted.

For more details about inaccessible tenant, please refer: Tenant inaccessible due to inactivity

Since you mentioned you are not aware of your old tenant and not used for production. I request you to re-create a new tenant for your purposes.

Quickstart: Create a new tenant in Microsoft Entra ID

Solution: To fully utilize the Azure portal, you need to re-create your new tenant.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Open an in-private/incognito browser window (to avoid automatic sign-in via SSO).
    2. Navigate to https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/free/ to sign up for a free Azure account.
    3. During the setup, you’ll be prompted to create a new directory (tenant). Once completed, you will become the Global Administrator of this new tenant, giving you full access to manage Azure resources.

Let me know if you need help with the sign-up process or configuring your new tenant.
