Hello Microsoft Team and Community,

We are currently utilizing Azure Functions Proxies in our production systems and have noted the announcement: "Community support for Azure Functions Proxies will end on 30 September 2025." This announcement can be found here:

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/updates?id=community-support-for-azure-functions-proxies-will-end-on-30-september-2025

Our primary concern is to understand the precise meaning and implications of "end of support" for Azure Functions Proxies. Specifically, we need to clarify:

  1. Does "end of support" mean that the Azure Functions Proxies feature will continue to exist and operate within Azure Functions beyond September 30, 2025, but will simply no longer receive any new updates, bug fixes, or official Microsoft support?
  2. Or, does "end of support" imply that the Azure Functions Proxies feature itself will be deprecated and removed from Azure on or after this date (or there is a risk of removal), potentially breaking existing applications that rely on it?

We understand the recommendation to migrate to Azure API Management and are evaluating this. However, for our planning and risk assessment, a clear, official statement on the future state of the Azure Functions Proxies feature post-September 2025 is crucial.

We would greatly appreciate an official response from a Microsoft representative to clarify this.

Additionally, if Microsoft Q&A is not the primary channel for obtaining such official clarifications for Azure service roadmaps or EOL policies, could you please direct us to the appropriate official channel where we can get definitive answers from Microsoft on this matter?

Thank you for your guidance.

    Hello NK,

Thanks for reaching out, Microsoft has officially announced that community support for Azure Functions Proxies will end on September 30, 2025, as detailed in the Azure Update and further clarified in the Microsoft Q&A response. This end-of-support means Azure Functions Proxies will no longer receive bug fixes, security updates, or official support from Microsoft. While the feature may continue to function temporarily beyond the deadline, Microsoft has made it clear that proxies are now deprecated and may be removed at any time after September 30, 2025—introducing a potential risk of unexpected service disruption. Furthermore, there will be no further investment or roadmap support for this feature. To ensure long-term reliability, Microsoft strongly recommends migrating to Azure API Management (APIM), which provides full support for modern API gateway capabilities. Organizations currently relying on Azure Functions Proxies should treat this as a deprecation milestone, and begin planning and executing their migration to APIM well in advance of the deadline to avoid operational and business impact.
