    Hi Molly,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

Per your description, since you need to switch school accounts, my understanding is that you are trying to transfer all OneDrive files from the old school account to the new school account. In this case, you are trying to turn off the Backup feature first so that you can log in to your new school account and then back up the three folders to the new school account.

If my understanding conflicts with your meaning (i.e., you only want to turn off the Backup feature and don't want to transfer files to the new school account), please point it out and provide more details.

If my understanding is correct, I suggest you try the following steps to resolve the backup issue and transfer files and then check again.

    1. Sync your old school account's OneDrive files to your device

Open File Explorer, you should see your old school account's OneDrive folder in the left sidebar of File Explorer. Please right-click the folder and select "Always keep on this device". This will let OneDrive sync all OneDrive files/folders to your device so you can transfer OneDrive files in a later step.

Make sure all files are synced well. When going to this OneDrive folder in File Explorer, make sure that each file/folder displays a green tick icon.

    1. Unlink the old school account from OneDrive

Click the OneDrive icon in the taskbar, Settings, click the Account tab, and select "Unlink this account".

    1. Check the default paths of these backup folders (Documents, Pictures, Desktop)

Open File Explorer, in the left sidebar, right-click the Picture folder, Properties, select the Location tab, and check its current path. Make sure it is C:\Users*yourusername*\Pictures.

If not, please click "Restore Default" and then click Ok. You may see the following dialog boxes. Click Yes to move all files back to the local Pictures folder. Later, refresh the current folder in File Explorer and see if files appear.

Repeat Step 3 to check the other two backup folders. Make sure their paths are not in the OneDrive folder.

  2. Run OneDrive and sign into your new school account

When setting up, in the "Your OneDrive folder" dialog shown below, if it reminds you that there is an existing folder, click "User this folder". After that, I suggest you open the OneDrive folder and check if you can see these OneDrive files.

If it doesn't remind you that you have an existing folder or you don't see any files in the new OneDrive folder, you need to manually go to C:\Users*yourusername*\ and check if you can see two OneDrive folders, such as "OneDrive - schoolname". If so, open both OneDrive folders and move all files/folders from one folder to the new school account's OneDrive folder.
