Surface Pro LTE - GPS

Hello,

I am currently in the market for a new tablet for work purposes. We use them to perform road maintenance patrols and collecting GIS data.

Historically, we have always used an iPad without the use of an external antenna.

Now that the new surface pro LTE is out, I have been throwing around the idea of making the switch and putting one of these in my truck.

The road patrol software is web based running HTML5.

I am wondering if I will see an improvement with GPS signal or about the same?  I definitely do not want to have less signal.

I have searched all over the net for GPS information on both the new iPad Air and the LTE surface - but everything looks a bit different.

Does any one have any information on this?

Cheers

TW

I have the New Surface Pro LTE and the Locations restrictive settings is problematic for GPS services.

I cannot get Google Mapsto show location,  in Edge or Chrome

    nor Microsofts Terrible Map Pro

But the basic windows 10 Maps do show my location..

    after 2 weeks of testing

Google maps is OUT no location connection

Maps Pro is Bad; roads are out by 1,000 feet

MS builtin Maps .. has Location but very poor function

Sygic Navigation appears to WORK.. still testing

ok google maps is OUT no location connection

Maps Pro is Bad; roads are out by a 1,000 feet

MS builtin Maps .. has Location but very poor function

Sygic Navigation appears to WORK.. still testing :)

The new Surface Pro LTE definitely supports  GPS  and I can see it  performing much better. Typically we don't see a GPS signal in the buildings , With SP LTE I can get signal in my office as well as home without  Wi-Fi.   Outdoor it  is performing great without LTE signal also.

I have also checked location by turning off LTE and Wi-Fi and still get a accurate location outdoor ( upto 3 mts in accuracy) . If you are deep inside the building or basements turning on Wi-Fi  ( no need to connect to Wi-Fi) will increase chances.
