I would like to know if my laptop is compatible with USBC thunderbolt docking stations.

I tried with Dell Thunderbolt TB16 dock, and it is not working expect charging.
Does this laptop not support thunderbolt docking stations? please suggest.

    Hi Robiul Islam6

We value your contribution to the Microsoft Community. The Surface Laptop 4 is equipped with USB-C ports, but it’s essential to understand that not all USB-C ports support Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is a high-speed interface that allows for faster data transfer, video output, and charging capabilities.

Here are some key points regarding Thunderbolt compatibility with your Surface Laptop 4:

    1. Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock: Microsoft offers the Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock, specifically designed for Surface devices. This dock provides ultra-high-speed data transfer, supports dual 4K monitors at 60Hz, and offers up to 96W power passthrough. It’s optimized for Surface Pro 9, Surface Pro 8, Surface Laptop Studio, and Surface Laptop 5
    2. Thunderbolt 4 Ports: The Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock features USB4/Thunderbolt 4 ports. These ports allow you to connect to Surface and non-Surface devices, providing the highest speed data and file transfers.
    3. On Surface laptop 4 it can connect Up to One 4K at 60Hz (8-bit color) Max resolution. 3840 x 2160
    4. If you want toconnect 2 external displays, we recommend using a Surface dock 2. Up to Dual 4K at 60Hz.
    5. Other Thunderbolt Docks: While the Dell Thunderbolt TB16 dock didn’t work as expected, it’s worth noting that not all Thunderbolt docks are universally compatible. Some may have specific requirements or limitations. If you’re looking for alternatives, ensure they explicitly state compatibility with Surface devices and Thunderbolt 4.

Note: At Microsoft, we want to manage your expectations regarding the Dell Thunderbolt TB16 dock not functioning correctly with your Surface device. Unfortunately, we lack the expertise to offer comprehensive troubleshooting steps for this third-party dock. We recommend reaching out to Dell’s support team for assistance.

Here are some links that can help with your Dell Thunderbolt TB16 dock didn’t work.

Thank you for your understanding. hopefully it helps.

    Kind regards,

    Christopher.
