Hello, please can anybody help me with my issue?
I had low disk space on hypervisor so I had to delete one virtual drive which was used but not important. I turned off VM which used that Virtual drive for data storage and disconnected virtual drive from VM. Since that time I have System Writer status 8 - inconsistend shadow copy.
Event log error 2 - vmicvss - The VSS writer System Writer failed with status 8 and writer specific failure code 0x800423F0.
Please can anybody help me to resolve this issue? THank you.

Hello WSS was shown on VM. Restart of services, server did not solve the problem. I solved it as I started it. I created new VHDX file but only 1 GB big and connected it to VM and set the same drive letter and problem is gone and I saved 45GB on physical drive of hypervisor. Thanks.

    Hi,

Where do you get the error message, in the Hyper V host or the VM?

If possible, could you please show the results of the vssadmin list writers?

Besides, please try to restart the VSS service, check if the error will disappear.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Anne
