Best way to connect to a databricks datamart for further exploration in PowerBI

Situation: Databricks is used as enterprise data platform. In reality local teams are moving forward with a different speed than the global organization is. To support this but still keeping control on the "golden source" we're setting up an architecture where we provide datamarts in databricks for this local need. After connecting they can consume this datamart in PowerBI where we create workplaces for each local entity starting from the shared datamart (potentially enriched with some local data if applicable). What would be the best way to connect powerBI to the Databricks datamart ? REST API, using the native ODBC connector (and what does this means if we talk data volume ?) ? There is no need (for now) for real-time data. Any best practices or architetural remarks would be helpful !

    Hi @Peter Verrykt ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thanks for posting the query.

Recently PowerBI team has launched native databricks connector which is the recommended method to connect to databricks from PowerBI. Reference documents are as shared below.

PowerBI is currently not supported in the Q&A forums, the supported products are listed over here. For performance details and best way to load data into PowerBI, it is recommended to ask the experts in the dedicated PowerBI forum over here.

Please let us know for further queries and we will be glad to assist.
