Surface Studio CPU Temp
Hi, folks. I have a Surface Studio 2 with i7. The processor is running about 65 degrees at 5% load, spiking to 85 at 40% load. This is a graphics machine. I am running Photoshop, Rebelle, Painter, etc. Often at the same time. Is this normal, or should I be doing something about it?
Thanks,
Tanya Gale

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
I understand that you'd like to make sure that the device is running the proper temperature based on the usage.
In this case, your device may become very warm during normal use. It complies with the user-accessible surface temperature limits defined by the International Standards for Safety (IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368). Still, sustained contact with warm surfaces for long periods of time may cause discomfort or injury. See article for guidelines on how to reduce heat-related concerns: Product safety warnings and instructions.
To add, you may also perform the methods below to reduce the temperature on the device:
- Check the app with getting so much of the power usage an try to close them completely in Task manager and check if that would make any changes. Go to Task Manager > Processes Tab.
- If you're running the Windows 10, try to stop the background apps, while running another app. Go to settings > privacy > Background Apps > use the toggle to turn off, Let apps run in the background. Test and observe the device.
- If you're running Windows 10, update the Windows system to Windows 11 through settings.
- Run the System File Checker.
- Install the drivers package. Check the specific OS build of your Windows Settings> System> About. Download the driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Studio 2 and click download on the next page. Please choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next. After the download, runand installthe .msi then Restart the Surface Device.
Let me know in case you have clarifications.
