SCCM Database

Have a project to build a new SCCM Site Server (separate site code) as the customer migrates from SCCM 2012 to SCCM CB. They asked about migrating the current SQL database from the old server to the new. If I am not mistaken, this is not necessary. Can someone confirm? If I am mistaken, is there a link with some steps I can follow?

Thank you!

Yes, it is correct that you don't migrate the DB directly when migrating the site, but why migrate here at all instead of upgrading the site to the latest version and performing a site backup and restore to new hardware if that's a desired outcome?

Here's a post I did a while ago that covers a lot of my thoughts: https://home.memftw.com/configmgr-site-server-os-instance-change/

    Hi @Matt Dillon ,

If you have sufficient time to do the migration, go ahead with side-by-side migration, you will start like from scratch.

For a quick option, I would suggest the same as @Jason Sandys .

    For your reference:

Thanks for the reply! They want a clean setup on new hardware so I will be setting up a new site to live along side the current site. They only have 40 apps so we will just recreate those. The DB question puzzled me because I did not think anything needed to be done as a new db will be setup when we set up the new site.
