Best Discussion Forum App?

We need a discussion forum app and have experimented with the out-of-the-box discussion board and news feed apps. Both have pretty limited features. We don't need too much, but four features are important: 1) to be able to reply to a reply to a reply (hierarchy or replies). 2) Follow a discussion (email and/or Teams notification). 3) Attach a doc or link or picture to the original post or any reply in the hierarchy. 4) Be notified when a person is mentioned in a post or reply.

Is there anything free out there that does this? What 3rd party apps would you recommend?

There is no other out-of-the-box apps in the SharePoint can meet your four requirements. Discussion board can only meet the first three requirements.

This forum only supports Microsoft products. It does not support third-party products.
