Hi,

I have a SURFACE and loving the HARDWARE it. However, I am having some troubles with the VIRTUAL KEYBOARD.

When disconnecting the keyboard, the on-screen keyboard sometimes does not appear when I am touching to type.

It seems pretty random, has anyone experienced this?

There is no "Show the touch keyboard when not in tablet mode and there's no keyboard attached" option available. Are you sure your information isn't dated? IMO this problem has NOT been answered.

    Hello Ciccio,

Thank you so much for posting in Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you raising this concern to us and I understand that you're experiencing an issue with the on-screen keyboard of the Surface. You got me here: we'll isolate this issue together.

Here are things you may try to fix the issue:

    1. Restart your Surface device. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and release once Windows Logo appears on screen.
    2. Check if the virtual keyboard is enabled in the settings. To do this, go to Settings > Devices > Typing and make sure the "Show the touch keyboard when not in tablet mode and there's no keyboard attached" option is turned on.
    3. Try updating your Surface device to the latest software version. To do this, go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates. Install available updates and restart device to apply all changes.
    4. Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit
    5. Download Drivers and Firmware: Download Surface Pro 8 Drivers and Firmware. from Official Microsoft Download Center

If none of the steps work, you may need to Reset your Surface and this removes all files in your computer so make sure to backup before doing so. See this link: Restore or reset Surface for Windows - Microsoft Support

Please let me know how it goes and hopefully it helps!

    Best regards,

    Rolando S.

    Hoping for response.
