SurfaceOemPanel cannot be found Error in Event Log

Hi,

I have a Surface Pro X, and I was checking the event log, and I can see many errors from SurfaceOemPanel, but they all state that "The description for Event ID 512 from source SurfaceOemPanel cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."

Same for Event ID 514.

Not sure what this error is, and what is the issue, but I have been facing problems with Skye For Business, and I think these events are related.

Thanks

    Same problem here on Surface Pro 7 for Business, how can we resolve these error messages?

    Log Name:      Application

    Source:        SurfaceOemPanel

    Date:          29.01.2020 21:49:08

    Event ID:      514

    Task Category: None

    Level:         Error

    Keywords:      Classic

    User:          N/A

    Description:

    The description for Event ID 514 from source SurfaceOemPanel cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

    If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

    The following information was included with the event:

    Event Xml:

    <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

      <System>

        <Provider Name="SurfaceOemPanel" />

        <EventID Qualifiers="49153">514</EventID>

        <Level>2</Level>

        <Task>0</Task>

        <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>

        <EventRecordID>10173</EventRecordID>

        <Channel>Application</Channel>

        <Security />

      </System>

      <EventData>

      </EventData>

    </Event>

    I have the same issue and have never connected this to an external monitor.  Also it tends to happen when I close the type cover and it goes into sleep mode, when then shuts down unexpectedly.  All my Win10 updates do not address this and seems to be some kind of video driver issue that Microsoft could care less about pushing to us.

    Seems with the Pandemic all MS is focused on is their Cloud Teams app and DC's push for them to acquire Tic Tok.  Very sad when this is a product where they control the entire vertical integration (like Apple) and still can't make it work.  This is my second unit I have had to replace for this same error code and screen flickering.  I hoped this would be a turning point for me to consider Microsoft as a viable PC but it's showing me that on a product where they control everything (hardware, software, memory) put into the device still has too many bugs.

    Looks like I will need to find another PC supplier (looking for suggestions) to replace this machine.  Since I  always use the type cover this was really not a good purchase (kickstand not helpful on a lap) and with all the video and shutdown complaints I have seen I am really upset.  Because for the same $1300 I could have gotten an Ultra-book PC with better specs.

    Thanks 3lectr0

    Interesting, was wondering if you have an external monitor attached to your laptop.

    Mine is connected to two monitors through Surface Dock. not sure if that is related though.

    Thanks

    I have a Surface Pro 3 which is attached to two external monitors. I have same error message, however, the "information provided with event" is blank, no information.
