Hi there, I'm a student and use my pen a lot to take notes. I dropped my surface pen a few months ago and the pen tip

was slightly broken (I couldn't draw straight lines)

I then bought some replacement tips and the problem hasn't fixed!!!

What can I do????

Can you possibly borrow someone else's pen to test if you have the same issue?
Pens do not need to be paired to write/draw.

    Hi rebeccyie,

Thank you for the response. May I know what device do you use together with the Surface Pen? Is it a Surface also? How about the pen cap, does the button still works as an eraser or in launching assigned apps? If yes, try these steps below:

    1. While the Surface Pen is paired on your Surface, open Device Manager.
    2. Click View on top and check Show hidden devices
    3. Expand Human Interface Devices> HID-compliant pen > Uninstall device

Surface pen settings > Uninstall device

**** Surface pen integration > Uninstall device

**** HID-Compliant touch screen > Uninstall device (if you see 2 of these drivers, uninstall both)

Intel (R) Precise Touch Device> Uninstall device

Note: If prompted with a checkbox stating "Delete the driver software for this device", leave it uncheck then hit Uninstall.

    1. Expand Firmware > Surface touch > Uninstall device

Note: If prompted with a checkbox stating "Delete the driver software for this device", leave it uncheck then hit Uninstall.

    1. Expand System devices > Surface pen pairing > Uninstall device

Surface Touch Servicing ML > Uninstall device

Note: If prompted with a checkbox stating "Delete the driver software for this device", leave it uncheck then hit Uninstall.

    1. Restart
    2. After Restart, check in Settings > Devices, if the Surface Pen is still paired on the device. If it is still paired, Removed and Add the Surface Pen again.
    3. Test the Surface Pen

    Kind Regards,

    Marrion Y.

Hi there, thanks for the reply!

Sadly none of what you mentionned worked, so I'm guessing the pen is damaged, or faulty

which is very disappointing as I expected Microsoft products to be slightly more resistant...

    Hi rebeccyie,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

Just to confirm: Is this the Surface Pen Tips you got to replace the original pen tip?

Were you able to try those 3 pen tips?

How about the pen cap, does the eraser function still works and the pen button click to open an app?

Here are some steps that you may try to troubleshoot the issue:

    1: Reseat the batteries

You may check this page for the steps on How to take out the batteries of your Surface pen.

2: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update

3: Try to adjust your Surface Pen Pressure Sensitivity through the Surface app

If this answer your question, we highly encourage you to inform our Community by clicking on Yes or marking my post as an answer. This will help other members who may have the same issue as you. Otherwise, don't hesitate to update us so we can further assist you.

    Kind Regards,

    Marrion Y.
