Microsoft Surface Pro 8 keyboard has stopped working. What can I do to fix it?

My keyboard/type cover was working 2 days ago, however suddenly today it has stopped working. I have unattached & reattached it, checked for updates, restarted the tablet, and confirmed connectivity by pressing CAPS and FN. When I press CAPS and fn, nothing happens. Finally I have tried to enter the UEFI, the lights turn on then immediately off again. When it does this it won't let me use the keys. I am travelling in New Zealand and am unable to mail it in for support.

Are there any other things I can do to get my keyboard reconnected? Or am going to have to buy a new keyboard?

Thank you

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Surface Pro 8 keyboard. Based on the troubleshooting steps you've already taken; it seems like the issue may be with the keyboard itself. Allow me to ask a question.

    • Is it possible for you to test your Surface keyboard on a different Surface device? You might have friends or family members who own the same device as you.

For troubleshooting guide, see Troubleshoot Surface Type Cover or Keyboard - Microsoft Support.

If the keyboard doesn't work on another Surface device, then it's likely that the keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced. Since you're traveling in New Zealand, you can reach out to our live support team to see if they can provide any assistance or recommendations for repair options. You may reach them by following the instructions below.

    1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support
    2. Choose how you would like to get support for your Surface device.
    3. Type in the problem you need help with.
    4. Look at any available solutions offered and select Contact Support.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
