Leaving dev channel - Windows Insider Program

I have attempted to join the beta channel of the Windows Insider Program, however it appears to have put me on the dev channel. I do not want to be on this, but don't seem to be able to leave. I believe factory resetting my device would put me back on the stable channel - but considering I haven't installed any updates and am still on a stable build I was wondering if there is any way to leave the program without a reset. The option to unenroll this device when the next version of Windows releases is grayed out. I am currently on the Windows 11 stable build 26100.2033 running an arm64 system.

Thanks and any help would be much appreciated.

24H2 26100.2033 is not stable at all. It is on Insider Release Preview channel, not Dev.

Anyway, they have a few bugs to clean up. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You can try to get out of Insider by deleting the registry key WindowsSelfHost and rebooting.

A reset would not help, it will just reinstall the same build that you have without changing the insider channel that you are currently in. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

    Thanks for the reply.

I believe it is a stable build as I received that particular update yesterday before enrolling to the insider program today.

I thought a factory reset would revert me back to the build of Windows that the laptop shipped with? I also asked a Microsoft support agent and he said a reset would fix my issues so I think I will just reset my laptop. Thanks for the suggestion about registry keys - I don't think I really know enough about Windows to be messing with these so a reset will hopefully fix this - if not I will take up your suggestion.

A factory restore is different than "Reset This PC" option in recovery

Do you know what Build was originally installed from the factory when you purchased your PC?

You probably received the preview update if you had this option set on, otherwise it should have asked it if you wanted the preview update as it would be optional.

As for being a stable Build, it may be a matter of opinion. The latest updates just added more bugs. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

    Hi Johnny,

I understand I have limited options then if I can't factory reset my laptop to go back.

I also can't carry out a fresh install as I don't think the arm64 Windows image is available publicly.

I also don't seem to have the option to go back in my Windows settings, could something like this help me to go back or is this a Windows 10 feature? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIpNbtdlOjY So is the only option I have to delete the registry and hope that fixes it?

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello Hussain,

As mentioned previously, a reset only keeps your current OS. If you have installed 24H2 within 10 days, you should show a roll-back option to go to your previous OS.

    Regards,
