Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070057.

This error started when I update my windows to Insider Preview build 22449

I have seen a ton of forums but very little help to solve.

I have tried the method where you stop services and rename the software distribution folders many times but all in vain.

I check C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\reportingevents.txt and all I see is a failure. I am not using a proxy server. And everything worked fine previously so I don't think it problem with the network.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I cannot even test the new build(s).

Note: I don't want to clean install windows on my machine as I have many software and critical projects on my pc.

    Does that erase all data on the device?

    Using an ISO and doing an in place update

    from an older build to a newer build does not lose data.
