Why does Windows 11 keep offering updates despite TPM 2.0 incompatibility?

Hi! I’m having an issue with Windows 11 Insider Preview updates. After receiving a message saying my system doesn’t support TPM 2.0, I expected no further update offers for this version. However, Windows keeps suggesting the installation of Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26120.3073 (ge_release_upr), even though my computer doesn’t meet the TPM 2.0 requirement. Why is this happening? And why is this update being repeatedly suggested when it’s clearly not compatible with my system?

My system specs:

  • Device name DevOlegNetHub
  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20 GHz
  • Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable)
  • Device ID F59632D7-2872-476B-9CF5-401DC122FE31
  • PII edited out by Mod
  • System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
  • Edition Windows 11 Pro
  • Version 24H2
  • Installed on ‎16/‎11/‎2024
  • OS build 26100.2314
  • Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.32.0

Thanks in advance for the help!

Your device is not in the Beta channel, perhaps in the Release Preview, since the latest Beta build is 22635.4870.

There is plenty of information on how to change channels in Insider in this Community.

Your issue is an example of an inconsistency in Windows 11. As far as I know, in the Beta, Canary and Dev channels, computers that do not meet the minimum requirements are not allowed, but that is not the case in the Release Preview channel or in the Public version.

Maybe tomorrow or another day Windows will block these latest versions and not allow them to run on computers that do not meet those minimum requirements, but that is another issue, especially since we have verified that the computers excluded by Microsoft as eligible for Windows 11 are perfectly capable, at least some of them, of running this version.

The answer is very simple: neither TPM 2.0 nor Secure Boot are ESSENTIAL to run Windows 11. In my case, I have a computer that does not meet those conditions and is running Windows 11 Pro 24H2 build 26100.3037 without problems.

I’m not talking about bypassing TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot — there’s plenty of information about that. My question is different:

If Windows checks my system, determines that it doesn’t meet the requirements, and blocks the update, then why does it keep offering the same update again and again? It doesn’t make sense for the system to suggest an update that it knows cannot be installed.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
