Is it possible to create multiple browser desktop SESSIONS (not windows) in Chromium Edge?

In Internet Explorer you had the option File - New Session - This opened a new IE window but with a different desktop session ID from the original. This allowed you to open the same web site in both but their windows / information would not mix.

In Chromium Edge it seems this is not possible.

Example:

In IE I can connect to a web site and login, then select File - New Session, and in the new IE window/session open the same web site and login as a different user - the two sessions are separate.

I cannot do this in Edge. The only thing that comes close is opening an InPrivate window. It seems the InPrivate session is separate from a normal window session. But if I open a second InPrivate window it uses the same desktop session as the first InPrivate window.

I think I know the answer but I would like it to be confirmed please.

This was a very useful feature for me and I use it all the time in IE. Definitely a step back if this is not possible in Chromium Edge.

Doug McClelland.

I had this same issue, so I tried a few different things, and found that if you add a new profile, and have 2 windows open (in different profiles), that it has the same affect as two sessions in IE. The new profile will not have any of your favourite links saved, but if you create them again in the new profile, they will be saved with that new profile going forward.

Steps to add a new profile:

    • Click on the profile icon (top right silhouette image of a person)
    • Click add profile
    • Click add
    • Should now have 2 MS Edge Chromium browsers (each with their own session)

    • In addition you can have as many profiles as you need.
    • You don't need to create an account or sign in.
    • You can choose a profile icon (but not upload one that I can see).
    • The icon appears on the taskbar.

    Thanks for this @CobinaM.

Hi my name is Ross, I'm an independent advisor. I'd be happy to help with your issue.

Unfortunately this feature isn’t available in the new version of edge. As you say your next best option is to use in private mode.

The only suggestion I can give is to submit this request via the feedback hub app.

    Regards,
    Ross
