Microsoft Edge PDF Preview Handler

It's been about 2 months. Files I have that contain the symbol "#" in the filename will not populate in the preview plane. It also affects Outlook. It is affecting productivity in the workplace. I found a registry fix but am hearing that Microsoft Edge will overwrite that fix. Are Microsoft or Edge teams not aware of this issue? I'm sure it's a fairly quick fix and imagine an Edge update a couple months ago contained this coding bug. I'd like to not modify the registry even more if possible.

The Edge PDF preview handler was first introduced with Edge 100 in April last, so that may be the update you're referring to. It isn't available to everyone yet, because it's still in the experimental stages. If you were previewing PDFs in Explorer before that, you would have had to have a third-party preview handler installed; they're usually bundled with applications like Adobe Reader. Only systems with a specific registry entry* will have the handler - is this the 'fix' you found?

If you are indeed using the Edge handler, please submit a report about this # bug. Press Alt-Shift-i to open the Submit feedback dialogue; put a brief description in the first line and include as many details of the behaviour as you can. Include diagnostic data, and if you give an email address, you'll receive an acknowledgement and possibly a request for further information.

    * According to the Edge team, this is the essential key:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf\shellex\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}]

    @="{3A84F9C2-6164-485C-A7D9-4B27F8AC009E}"
