in microsoft edge there is no way to save web pages and html files to text files the way you could do to in internet explorer . when you right click on save there should be an option to save  html files or web page to text files to be read later when your off line. it seams that internet explorer was the better browser as you could do what you really wanted to do easier than edge. please fix this issue on edge as microsoft defender has now blocked me from using internet explorer by auto switching me to edge that won't give me the choice to save html file and web page recipe to text files to read off line.

    Hello,

    Microsoft Edge and other Chromium browsers currently do not have this feature, but your feature request is appreciated.

    What you can do as a workaround is

    • Save the page as a HTML file, then open it with Notepad from where you saved it at, or open Notepad then select the HTML file
    • You can use an extension that can allow you to save them as text files
    • When you download a page, you can add .txt to the file name and it will show up as a text file

    Please let me know if this helps.

    With all due respect, this is a not a solution or a good work around. I believe the goal was to save the page a TEXT file. In IE it's simple - File -> Save As and select TEXT. Why Edge can't do this is beyond my understanding; Chrome can't do it either. Go figure.

    A better work around to get a TEXT file would be...

    1. Save the page as HML in Edge
    2. Find the file you saved as HTML and Right Click -> Open With -> Internet Explorer

    1. File -> Save As...

    1. In the Save as type field, select Text File (*.txt).

    1. Enter the file name and click Save

    Another way to save a webpage as a plain text file:

    1. Switch Edge into Immersive Reader mode on the webpage you want to have as plain text
    2. Fire up a text processor
    3. Copy the text from Immersive Reader
    4. Paste the text into the empty text processor file

    to save html file and web page recipe to text files to read off line.

    To save the important bits of a web page (without ads and other clutter) for reading offline, use the reading view if it's available. When viewing the page, press F9. If you see a de-cluttered page, you're in luck:

    • Press Ctrl-P to open the Print dialogue;
    • From the Printer dropdown, select Save as PDF;
    • Explore the other settings to optimize the page display if you like, then click Save;
    • Edit the file name if you want, and choose a place to save the file.

    Double-clicking on this file will open it in your PDF reader. If you haven't installed one, it will open in Edge. This is one step up from saving the page as a text file: you can still select text, e.g. to copy it into an email, and essential illustrations will be retained.

    Bonus tip: if you don't like the font used to display the text, you can change it to a different one: close the Print dialogue, then click (Settings and more) > Settings > Appearance > Customize fonts and select your favourite from the Standard font dropdown. Next time you print a page from reading view, this is the font that will be used (the one in the screenshot is Comic Sans MS!).
