Why does the latest version of Microsoft Edge take so long to start up for first time. It frequently disappears into the 'Ether' saying script is not responding.

Good day MikeMatthews4! I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. I understand that you are having an issue with regards to MS Edge which is showing an error when you are launching it. Kindly check and try the methods/steps below and see how it goes.

Method 1: (Try this if you are still able to open MS Edge even if there is an error)

    • Launch MS Edge
    • Click on the 3 dots
    • Click on Settings
    • Click on Reset settings from the left side
    • Click on Restore settings to their default values and then click on Reset
    • After doing the above check and try it again

    Method 2:

    • Press Windows key + R and from the run box type in there cmd and press Enter or hit OK and this will open up Command Prompt
    • From there type in sfc /scannow and wait for the process to the completed
    • Check and try it again afterwards

    Method 3:

    • You can also try to repair it by Pressing Windows key + I
    • Click on Apps
    • Under Apps & features look for Microsoft Edge and then click on it on and click on Modify and then click on Repair
    • Check and try it again

    Method 4:

    • Head over to the link below and try to download the installer file (select the channel which is 95 and check the build which can either be the latest one or ones below it)

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/d...

    • Check if you will be able to install it to overwrite the existing MS Edge that is on your PC and check if it will work afterwards

If you will continue to experience the issue even after trying the above and if you felt that this is with regards to the recent update, you can also send a feedback to the team that is working on Edge and hopefully a fix will be applied soon on the next update and you can provide a feedback from the browser itself by clicking on the 3 dots > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

    Regards,

    Paul R.
