Windows Update Catalog Cert issue

Anonymous
2022-03-04T18:07:45+00:00

When several of my other co-workers or I go to "Microsoft Update Catalog" and try to download an update it is blocked. This happens on my personal computer at home, on my cell phone since at least Thursday 02/24/2022.

The block is due to download link pointing to HTTP.

This is the one the download link goes to:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/updt/2022/02/windows10.0-kb5010427-x64_1ebd2aa1a2dd6de3070a7c09fa2b68817227e2d0.msu

Switched to

https://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/updt/2022/02/windows10.0-kb5010427-x64_1ebd2aa1a2dd6de3070a7c09fa2b68817227e2d0.msu

If you copy the link and make the link HTTPS you get a warning page.

UPDATE!

The issue listed above was cause by our network provider. They have since adjusted the security settings and it is working correctly. This "secured" HTTP download is still not a preferred situation especially when it is being used by one of the largest Tech companies in the world.

If I copy the link and past into a separate window it downloads without a warning or issues.

    Hi Manatee Tech,

Yes, there are many people experiencing difficulty downloading from the Catalog page, when previously there was no problem, the only solution I found was the method I provided above.

After more troubleshooting, our network provider looks to be blocking downloads from HTTP links. I have placed in a ticket with them to find out more. I have also found that if I am not on their network modern browsers are warning that the download is from an HTTP link and after accepting this it downloads. I do not remember this behavior last month so I am guessing a code change?

    Hi Manatee Tech,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

If you copy the download link on the Microsoft Catalog, then open an Incognito (InPrivate) window in your browser and paste the download link, can you then download from that link?
