Hi

I have a problem with access to a terminal server running on Windows 2008 R2

I can connect to the server on local network and I can connect from the wan without any problems

If I try to connect via a VPN connection to my firewall I can connect to my PDC via RDP but if I try to connect to my terminal server I am unable to get connection.

I can ping the terminal server

A hint would be nice

Best Regards

John B

    @John B Hi,

Thank you for posting in Q&A!

In order to troubleshoot your issue, please provide the following information:

1.Please try to disable the third-party firewall software in the terminal server and try to RDP again.
2.Are the DC and terminal server located in the same subnet? Can the DC connect the terminal server successfully?
3.Which kind of VPN do you use?
4.When you failed to RDP, what's the specific error message?

The answers would be of great importance.

Hope you have a nice day : )
    Gloria

    Hi Gloria
    Thanks for your response

I have no problem connecting to the server via RDP when I do it directly from internal network or from the internet.

I only have the problem when I try to connect via VPN and only to the terminal server.

I can connect via VPN to any other server and I can actually connect to the terminal server via another server

    Best Regards

    John B

    Hi,

    Sorry for the late reply!

1.First, please Use Telnet to test port 3389 functionality(3389 is used by RPD by default) and follow this doc:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/networking/use-telnet-to-test-port-3389-functionality

2.Make sure that port 3389 was not blocked by VPN settings.

3.Make sure that the login account is added in the terminal server while connecting VPN.

4.Can you please provide a screenshoot of the exact error message? It's important for troubleshooting, thank you.

Hope you have a nice day : )
    Gloria
