Microfsoft Interference with Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has suddenly taken over Edge which I used to access one social media platform, two free Google apps, Wordle NYTimes (1X per day) and sometimes Sudoku. Is this to try and push me to buy Microsoft 365? Why did this happen? Your search box now only recognizes a very old Facebook Username and Password for me. I have no idea what Surface and Surface Pro and all the other Surface things are. EVERYTHING very suddenly changed on my screen, even when I shut down and rebooted. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Three things happened: 1) My husband, ***, died in Sept. I changed all passwords after his death. 2) two days ago, my computer screen was frozen with a warning about a serious security issues, asking me to call a security number immediately. I did this, did not give personal information to the person I spoke to (and no passwords or personal information is anywhere my computer) and when I realized this was a scam, I hung up and immediately re-set my computer to its original settings. 3) After I re-set the computer, I found that when I accessed a Facebook Group that I administer, the admin tools were missing. I tried, unsuccessfully, to report this to Facebook. In the process of trying to get correct security details, I realized that my husband had provided a landline number (which does not receive text messages) to Microsoft and to other entities so I'm not able to access accounts by using a code sent by text to our flip phone. I was able to correct many things but not Facebook and at this point I am unsure that my husband's Verizon account has been closed and a new account opened in my name -- Verizon assures me this has happened but there are signs that it has not. Also the Microsoft account password that I changed just this morning now no longer works.

    Hi DianeDuBay,

Welcome to post in Microsoft Community. I'm Mosken, let me help you figure it out.

According to your description, I knew that you're having trouble using the Microsoft Edge browser, which now only recognizes your login and password from a long time ago. If my understanding is wrong, please correct me in the reply.

First of all, please describe the problem you encountered in detail, or take a screenshot of the interface that you think is abnormal, and only send the relevant information to me in the next reply, so as to solve the problem faster and better.

Then it is recommended that you try to check for Microsoft Edge browser updates. Enter "edge://settings/help" in the address bar of the Edge browser, then it will automatically check for browser updates, which may require you to restart the browser

About the remember password feature. You can enter "edge://settings/passwords" in the Microsoft Edge browser address bar to open the Edge browser settings page, enable "Offer to save passwords", and select "Automatically" in "Sign in".

Then visit "edge://settings/clearBrowsingDataOnClose" and make sure "Password" is disabled. Because once it enable, saved passwords will be cleared every time you close your browser.

Or you can try to repair Microsoft Edge browser. "Win" logo key + "I" open Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.

The above steps are provided based on the information I have learned so far, I wish that will be helpful to you. If your problem still cannot be solved by these steps, you could tell me the specific situation in the next reply. I will continue to assist you in solving the problem.

    Best Regards,

    Hi DianeDuBay,

Sorry, Microsoft cannot provide any technical support for third-party related accounts. It is recommended that you try to seek technical support from the service provider of the account.

Then regarding the Microsoft account password issue, it is recommended that you try to log in to your Microsoft account on another device browser to confirm the correctness of your password. In addition, when using a Microsoft account to log in to the system, it is recommended that you ensure that the network connection is normal (try to connect to the network in the lower right corner of the login interface), because network support may be required.

In addition, if you have more concerns about the current system, it is recommended that you try to backup all data in this device, and then try to clean install Windows system. For the specific installation method, visit How to: Perform a Clean Install or Reinstall of Windows 10 - Microsoft Community for more information.

    Best Regards,
