Edge sync is turned off by updates to Edge or Edge Update, and I have to re-sync Edge. Is there a way of stopping this?

    Good Day Keith74,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 10 pc and community member like you. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.

    Reset the Edge

-Open Edge and click the 3 dots at the upper right side of your screen.

    -Go to Settings

    -Look for Reset Settings

-Click Restore settings to their default values.

(This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.)

    Restart and observe the Edge.

If issue persists, you can re-install the Edge using this link below.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/d...

Download and install the version (95.0.1020.53)

    Restart and observe the Edge.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

    Hi Carlo

A reset of Edge did not cure the problem but a repair did:-

    Apps & features > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair > restart.

Best wishes for the New Year.

    Keith

    Good Day Keith74,

I appreciate your time getting back to this thread, keep me posted with the results, if issue persists after resetting you can proceed with re-installation of Edge using the link I posted and check the sync.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.

    Hi Carlo

Thanks for the reply.  I have reset Edge as suggested and will wait and see whether this works.  However I think I have done this in the past, in which case it has not been a lasting cure.  Regarding uninstalling Edge and reinstalling it, it was the automatic update of Edge to the latest version (95.0.1020.53) on 13 Nov which caused sync to be turned off.  Would you still recommend uninstalling and reinstalling if resetting does not work?

After I had resynced Edge, it was again turned off by the automatic update of Edge Update on 17 Nov.  Every time sync has been turned off, I also get a message next to my profile asking me to 'sign in'.  After I resync, the message disappears but then I have had to enter my password to resync.

    Regards

    Keith74
