Problems opening hyperlinks in Windows Mail

I have just replaced the hard drive in my desktop PC and reinstalled Windows 10 from the original recovery disks.  I have completed all of the updates and chosen Microsoft Edge as my default browser as well as Windows Mail.

There is now a problem in directly opening all hyperlinks in emails in the browser, which I could do on the old hard drive,  without right clicking the link, clicking 'open link' and then clicking the flashing Edge icon on the taskbar.  When initialling opening Mail, I can directly open a hyperlink to the browser in a message, but not with subsequent links in the same or other messages without going through the indirect route by right clicking the link.  If I close Mail and reopen it, it again only directly opens the first hyperlink, but not subsequent links.

I have tried various suggested solutions like changing Internet Option settings, but nothing seems to solve the problem of being able to open all hyperlinks directly.  Would appreciate any advice.

    Hi Luiz,

Just thought I'd let you know that I changed my default web browser to Internet Explorer as suggested in some other posts and I can now open multiple hyperlinks.  I switched back to Edge to test it, but still having same old problem.  I'll continue with IE as my default for now, but I'm still curious why I'm having a problem with Edge after all the resetting.

    Cheers,

    Ray

    Hi Luiz,

I went through all the steps you suggested, but the problem hasn't been resolved.  After opening Mail, I am still able to click on a hyperlink the first time which opens it successfully, but for subsequent links in other messages I have to right click and then click again on the prompt to open the link.  For some strange reason I can successfully directly open further links in the clicked hyperlink without a problem.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Ray

Hello RayLaverack, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Luiz Cruz, an independent consultant and I would be happy to help you.

I understand that you are having problems opening hyperlinks in Edge, initially I recommend the following solutions:

Check for new updates on Edge:

Start Edge, click on the "..." in the upper right corner and access the settings.

Go to the "About Microsof Edge" option and check if you have any updates.

If it still doesn't work, you can reset the Edge:

In Edge settings, click "Reset settings".

Check to see if the problem still exists.

If it still persists, use the Windows 10 repair tools:

Press the Windows + X keys, select Command Prompt (Admin), copy and paste the commands below and press enter after each command.

    Sfc /ScanNow

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Wait for the process to finish and restart the pc.

I hope I have helped, if you do not solve this way let us know and we will try new solutions.

    See you!
