Edge keeps downloading Favicon.ico

Hello,

I haven't been able to find an answer to this elsewhere.  For the last month or so, Microsoft Edge just randomly starts downloading Favicon.ico as a downloaded file.  I just deleted 25 of them a few minutes ago.  There are no prompts asking to download, it just starts downloading.  The file sizes are super small.

Running Win 10

Microsoft Edge version:

Version 87.0.664.47 (Official build) (64-bit)

Thanks!

I am not an computer expert, but i found out where that Favicon.ico was downloaded from:

    https://s.click.aliexpress.com/favicon.ico

Seems to be some adware from Aliexpress. But i have no clue from where exatly or why it is downloading this file. I did go to my Cookie-Settings from Edge and i blocked exactly that Link and Aliexpress.com and Alibaba.com in any settings menu i could find. Hope it helps cause it seems there is no Edge-App installed that could cause the problem, nor an App on my PC. I guess it must be a problem in maybe with my account, because i synchronised it and i did not install anything.

Not sure if this will help, Is there anyone who knows how to prevent/solve this problem?

i was never on aliexpress either. i cant explain it. next time it downloads click on the 3 vertical dots in the lower bar (next to the .ico logo) and click the option to show the link where the .ico comes from. Than go to your Edge settings and try to block this URL in all the different Cookie options. For now it stoped here... i hope it'll last.

EDIT: even the day after no favicon downloads - think that solution will help

Yes, I have run the scans, and I do use that software often.  Nothing has changed.  I am trying the other suggestion to have Edge ask what to do with downloads, but that seems like a workaround rather than a solution.

    Will see if anything changes.

If have the same problem with the automatic favicon download. A minute or so after Edge is started, the download starts.

I ran Malwarebytes and my computer is clean. Disabled automatic downloads now, so Edge asks me what to do with whatever I download.
