Launching Microsoft Edge on Windows 10

Migrated from Firefox. Tried to see if this question has been asked.
I've pinned the Edge icon to my taskbar. In Firefox, when I clicked this, it brought up a windows session "within" that task bar...and if I minimized it, and reclicked it, it would go back to the single session.
But it seems in Edge, it spawns another windows session (another taskbar entry) and so on and so on. How do I prevent that from happening so I only have the one pinned Icon session....taking up way too many taskbar entries and I can't find which one relates to what session I want to go to. I'd rather have only one session and deal with multiple tabs. Is this possible? (Other programs I use do this same behavior)
Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
I'm Rodrigo, Independent Advisor and I will help you.
Try unpinning the Edge from the taskbar, open it from the start menu and pin it again
Dear lucschutyser,this behavior is very similar to viruses, in this case I recommend that you scan the system using the following programs:
Microsoft Security Essentials > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/detail...
Malwaresbytes > https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
After scanning, check the behavior;
Make a clean boot:
Clean boot serves to determine whether a background program is interfering with the system or optimizing system loading.
- Press the Windows + R keys, type msconfig and click OK;
- In the System Configuration window, click on the services tab;
- At the bottom of the screen, check the Hide all Microsoft services box and click Disable all;
- Now click on the Programs Startup tab and on Open Task Manager;
- When loading the task manager, click on the start tab and disable all non-Microsoft programs (right-click on the program and choose disable), close the Task Manager and click OK on system configuration and restart computer if requested.
NOTE: This procedure disables all third party services and programs. You can later, if the problem is solved in this way, selectively enable the programs and services that will start with Windows, instead of keeping all disabled. If the problem returns after activating the startup of a specific service or program, the problem is exactly in the startup of this software and it is recommended to remove it.
Check if the problem still exists;

Thanks for the reply, but this really seems like overkill. I am not even sure if the behavior I am experiencing is the way EDGE is supposed to work. If so, I would hope that there is some configuration setting I am just missing to keep from opening so many separate sessions everytime I click on the pinned ICON. Again, many programs do NOT work that way. (That's what TABS within a single session are supposed to handle).

Not exactly. On my TASKBAR (the selection of ICONS on the bottom of the screen), there is a pinned image of the EDGE icon. when I click that, it opens a session, but then ALSO creates a NEW longer icon in the task bar. If I click it again, yet ANOTHER ICON is created. That is not the way, for example, WORD works. When he click on the WORD ICON, it opens a document session, but a NEW ICON is not created. And if you click on it again, it still brings you to the original. So it is easy to always know what ICON is for what open application, and one doesn't have a pletoria of icons being opened in the task bar. Hope this makes sense?
Hello Andrew, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Luiz Cruz, an independent consultant and I would be happy to help you.
Regarding your question, I didn't quite understand, do you have an Edge icon on the taskbar, when you have Edge open and click on the taskbar icon again, a new Edge tab is displayed?
If not, please inform us;
I await your return, see you!
