Edge - multiple instances in taskbar

When I open a new window in Edge it opens as a new edge instance on my taskbar, in the new instance my custom settings (tab settings, search settings, etc. are not synced) and often it causes the main instance of edge to completely revert back to default settings (including prior deleted favorites returning and collections disappearing). This problem has persisted from windows 10 and now with windows 11. I have already tried a common fix: (unpinning from taskbar, closing edge, re-opening from the .exe and pinning that instance after re-starting the computer but nothing I have tried works) Any suggestions?

    Hi mitchjm,

    I would like you to reset your settings and see if that solves the problem. This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history, and saved passwords will not be cleared.

    1. Click on the three dots menu button.
    2. Click on Settings.
    3. Click on Reset settings.
    4. Click on Restore settings to their default values.
    5. Click on Reset.

    Do you have multiple profiles in Microsoft Edge? You can click on the profile icon next to the three dots menu button.

    I only have one profile. I should mention that I did try the 'repair' function from the apps and features settings, but still had no luck. I attached a picture of the taskbar just to show what happens when i open a new window. Thanks

    I would like you to submit feedback on this for the engineers to investigate.

    1. Click on the three dots menubutton.
    2. Go to Help and feedback.
    3. Click on Send feedback.
    4. Fill out the form.
    5. Include your email address.
    6. Click on Record my problem button.
    7. Agree to the terms and click on Start recording.
    8. Record the issue and then click on Stop recording.
    9. Click on Save and include.
    10. Click on Send.
