microsoft edge saved forms

While checking my Microsoft forms saved ? (I guess in cloud while I'm on MS Edge I noticed if I was to save it, it was called a Json file  as a file type. I know .jpg files are J pegs but I've never heard of a Json file. Is it NEW?

    JSON files are java script object notation files.

    they can be read (and edited) in a text editor such as notepad.

    it is not a particularly new format but is normally used for data interchange between apps and/or server.
