Microsoft Edge will not open. Tried repair, run as Administrator, download and reinstall. I see I am not the only one. Not sure when this started as I do not normally use Edge at this point.

Some users, especially those who have used the program O&O Shutup10, have found that Edge will not start after the recent update to version 105. This is because there is an obsolete registry entry which conflicts with the new version. The solution for these users is to remove the registry entry.

To do this,

  1. Right-click on the start button and select Run to open a run box.
  2. Type cmd and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open an administrator command window. Give UAC permission when prompted.
  3. Copy this line into the window and press Enter:
    reg delete HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /v MetricsReportingEnabled
  4. Answer y to confirm that you want to delete the entry.
If it is present, it will be removed and you'll see a confirmation message.
If it isn't present, you'll see a message saying that it couldn't be found.
  5. Copy this line into the command window and press Enter:
    reg delete HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /v MetricsReportingEnabled
  6. Answer y to confirm that you want to delete the entry.
If it is present, it will be removed and you'll see a confirmation message.
If it isn't present, you'll see a message saying that it couldn't be found.
  7. Close the command window.
  • If the entry was found and removed, restart the computer, then try to launch Edge again.
  • If the entry wasn't found at all, you have a different problem.

Hello, I'm having the same issue... Microsoft Edge it's not opening here.

When I type iexplore, appears to me an error message:

"Windows cannot find 'iexplore'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
