Missing Highlights in PDF documents.

Hello,

I am using the latest version of Microsoft Edge. An issue that keeps coming up is that sometimes, when I highlight certain parts in a PDF document, save it and then close it, when I re-open it the highlights are missing.

Is there any way I can retrieve them?

I am in the middle of a dissertation and I rely on this feature to organize my reading and writing.

Hi Giorgos,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand the concern as you are unable to see the highlighted text on a PDF file that has been edited and saved using Edge, which is a very important feature for your require. Ideally, if those files are saved successfully with highlighted lines, then the highlights should show when you again open them. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

  • What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 currently installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
  • What is the version of Edge installed on the PC? (Open Edge > click on (…) dots from top right corner > click on Settings > Click on About Microsoft edge from the left pane).
  • Is this PDF file saved locally on the PC?
  • Do you see this issue on all PDF files or any specific file?

Let us try few steps and check

Step 1: Clear browsing history and cached data

Your browser automatically saves temporary Internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix page display problems.

Open Microsoft Edge, select History > **Clear Browsing data >**check the box beside and Cached image and files, Browsing history, Cookies and other site data > then select Clear now.

Step 2: Reset Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Click on the three dots (…) from the right top corner.
  3. Select Settings from the drop down and click on Reset settings from the left pane.
  4. Select Restore settings to their default values.
  5. Relaunch Edge and check

Disclaimer: This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. You favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.

Let us know the results. If the issue persists, we will certainly assist you further.
